The City of Light, Sunday
Jun. 18th, 2007 01:33 amThe junk room wasn't so bad, really.
Valentine rather wished they could have stayed in there.
And then there was silence.
(Slight MirrorMask spoilers here)
Just enough silence...

notawitch for participating in this portion of my dorky MirrorMask geekings. It's been fun! -- Note: The aftermath of the big boom, before the princess has her blurb under the second cut, will be played out in OCD in this very post, and we can even have a shiny mini-celebration here if you guys want before Will takes you all home. Jump on in and play!)
Valentine rather wished they could have stayed in there.
Valentine ( | It was entirely possible that, when they all set out to be big damn heroes, Valentine had never imagined that he'd be sitting in a junk room listening to an Al Bhed girl tell him to hang around in the back and throw balls at things. On the other hand, it was also entirely possible that this is exactly what he had been anticipating, and the next step was the coming of the giant wall of black death that was inevitably going to sweep in and kill them all. It was also entirely possible that, when daylight (or some semblance therein) finally rolled around, Valentine very, very grudgingly led his four far-more-heroic-than-himself companions out into the city to throw themselves at the shadows, wherever they might be. However, if anyone ever accused Valentine of squeaking in a most undignified manner and trying to backstep out of there the moment the aforementioned black death made itself visible in the distance, he would deny that particular claim most furiously. "There, we've found it! Now can we please kill it and be out of here before it finds us?" |
Rikku ( | Rikku took a deep breath, steeling herself. This was it. Go time. She could do this. They could do this. She nodded as everyone moved into position, resisting the urge to pace. They had to be patient, here. They had to set up their barriers and lure the shadows in. She was awful at that. But she'd promised not to get killed this weekend, and thus was going to try her damnedest to be patient and hold onto her flashlight and keep her flash bombs handy and wait. Auron would be proud. Maybe. |
Donatello ( | Donnie set out the flares around them and pulled his flashlight out to hold. He didn't need his bo for this, but it was within reach as always as he waited, alert and tense, for the shadows to come. |
Shadows ( | Taking note of the flares with almost a sentient, thoughtful pause, the shadows altered their course and turned to barrel down toward the ragged band of heroes. There was to be no light out and about, if these shadows could help it. They'd have to smother it before it got too big! |
Buffy ( | Buffy had a torch and an axe and she wasn't afraid to use either. "The shadows are coming," she called out. |
Donatello ( | "Remember to use the flashlights," Donnie said, watching them come and feeling a chill along his shell at the sight. "Hold the button, then turn it on, and all together so we get the most amount of light possible." |
Rikku ( | Rikku nodded, gathering the Blessed Gem into her palm. "Wait for a lot of them," she said, tossing a flash bomb to a stray tendril working its way in. "We keep them at bay until we get a lot at once and then we hit it with everything. Yeah?" Standing here in the light of day, it seemed like a pretty half-baked kinda plan. But then, they took on Sin with less, and sometimes you just had to wing it. Right? |
Valentine ( | Valentine fumbled nervously with the button of the torch-lamp-thingie until it clicked on, and pointed the light at the shadows, shaking nervously like... a nervous shaking thing. But at least with the flashlight turned on, he could pull orange balls from his pocket whenever he needed. Another tendril came dangerously close, and he threw the ball at it, thankful that he had the aim of a juggler backing him up at the very least, even if he wasn't a fighter by any stretch of the imagination. "Keeping them at bay all on its own is an excellent notion," Valentine said. He totally wasn't yelling. Much. |
Shadows ( | But the shadows were grumpy and pushy, and did not want to he held at bay. They had things to do and cities to tear apart and they were not supposed to allow themselves to be teased by a handful of high-schoolers with flashlights and exploding balls. They wanted this to be finished quickly so that they could get back to being destructive and terrifying! So they all gathered themselves up in a swirling mass of inky blackness and swept down toward the kids in a wave of nasty horrible. |
Rikku ( | Which was the best chance they were going to get, really. Rikku took a deep breath, looked around to see if everyone was in agreement, and then called out, "NOW!" One hand brought up her flashlight while the other tossed out her Blessed Gem, aimed straight for the center of the black swirling mass. |
Shadows ( | There was light! Flashlights and juggling balls and flares and some gem that exploded and caused more light! There was more light than the shadows could possibly hide from, swirling around them from every direction! Light, bright, blinding, bad, unbearable! And then the shadows shuddered. And then they were gone. A flock of fish squished pleasantly past the heroes of the day, and the sun came out. |
And then there was silence.
(Slight MirrorMask spoilers here)
Just enough silence...
Princess ( | The princess's jaw dropped. They really were from another world. Which meant that there really were other worlds. And somehow, she finally understood what to do with the Charm, the MirrorMask, that she had stolen. First, she had to return to the room she had taken it from. There was a sense of dramatic... rightness to that. And the skies were clear, so she could travel quickly. As she walked, she thought. The shadows were gone! The worms had actually destroyed her mother's shadows! And now that they were gone, she found that... she missed them. Sure, they had been a constant pain in her neck, keeping her running and hiding and preventing her from doing what she rightfully should have, and sure, they might have accidentally killed her -- I mean, look at all hundreds of useless people they had killed... Nah. Her mother was heartless and evil and didn't know the first thing about raising a daughter. And now that the shadows were gone, she could... Leave. Go to another world, like the scum had done. Go to another world, where she could be another girl, with parents who treated her like a person, not a toy... She'd steal someone else's life, and make it her own. That would be the easiest way. She didn't know what would happen to this world when she left it, but something told her it wouldn't be pretty. She rather hoped it would all crumble into dust behind her, with all the people still in it. When she arrived at the white dome, she set to writing a note: To my mother, as even if it is not she who finds this, I have no doubt that it will get to her eventually, as everything always does: Dearest Mama, as by now you must be aware, I have found the MirrorMask. I shall use it to go away. There are other places. I'll find one with another girl like me in it, a life I can take. She'll not be as clever as me, of course. I can't live in your world. I have to grow up. I'm going to run away and join real life. Of course, if I use the MirrorMask it may upset things a bit. But you can't run away from home without destroying somebody's world. The princess smiled and shrugged as she placed the note in the drawer and locked it. This world was a beastly pit, and she wouldn't miss it one bit. She put on the MirrorMask and looked out the window. |

That sounded a little more doubtful than he had hoped it would. So he tried again. "We did it!"
...
"That was easier than I thought it would be."
