Room 206, Wednesday Aftermoon

It was Valentine's birthday today. Of course, Valentine had spent all of yesterday plotting what to do to celebrate the aforementioned day of his birth.
And, of course, he had come up with a plan which he had thought was a brilliant one.

Actually, he really hadn't thought of anything at all, so he simply hung a sign outside the door-

It's Valentine's Day! ... In the holiday sense, and the literal, Happy Birthday To Me sense. Party!

The door was open a crack for just so long as the roomie would allow, and Valentine's side of the room was thoroughly taped off again so as to avoid any visitors being strung up or stuck to closet doors. Inside was the best approximation of party gear that Valentine could manage-- he had handwavily set out some popcorn and pop on the table, and there were paper bags, paint brushes, scissors, glitter, paint, and glue on the off chance that anyone wanted to be thoughtful and make a mask so that the birthday boy could actually read their expressions for a while.

"Happy Valentine's birthday," River said beaming, handing over a present wrapped in clingfilm containing three crocheted juggling balls.

Valentine grinned broadly as he accepted the gift, speaking as he wrestled with the clingfilm. "And a happy day of random pink things and shiny hearts to you, River," he replied, inspecting the juggling balls with a satisfied nod.

Happy to see that he appreciated the present, River added: "Made them myself. Learnt crochet in Home Ec."

"Home Ec would be the class that's also making those... eh... cozies as well, isn't it?" He chuckled as he remembered Demyx's reaction to learning what it was that he was making the cozy for. Ah, priceless. "They're good balls- sit well in my hand and everything. I'll certainly use these."

"Dildo cozies?" River didn't feel the least embarrassed about that. "Yes. We handed them in yesterday. Thought you'd prefer these though."

Valentine laughed. "I don't have much use for the cozies. These are far more useful to me, thank you." He showed his appreciation with an impromptu demonstration using the new balls.

Valentine smiled a broad smile and took a bow. "There you go," he said. "They're fantastic balls."

Nova stopped by. Other than science class, he hadn't had a chance to chat with his juggling coach in a while.

"Nova!" Valentine waved hello to his juggling student. He liked this kid. Mostly because he also wore a mask.
He sort of wondered about the turtle, but that was pretty much because it didn't seem to like him much.

"Valentine," Nova said in greeting. His turtle would have extended a greeting of its own if it hadn't been returned to its original stationary state and tucked quietly into Nova's jacket.

Nova noted the sign posted outside the door and added, "Happy Birthday."

"Heh," Valentine seemed rather pleased with the acknowledgment that today was his day. "How has your juggling been coming along?"

Nova nodded. School wasn't as tiring as chasing Bounto, he thought, but it was its own variety of trouble.

Nova gave Valentine a thoughtful stare. Nova didn't want Valentine to go out of his way, giving juggling lessons, when it was his birthday. Nova frowned while he continued to think it over.

"If you don't feel up to it today, that's fine. Any time that's good for you, let me know and I'll happily give you another lesson."

"I suppose you did," she said cheerfully. "Did your parents name you after the holiday, or was it just lucky that you were born on February 14th?"

Valentine stared at Will a moment in consideration. "I think... it's more pleasant to say that the holiday was named after me, really. The truth is generally less romantic."
For a split moment, that might have been a bothered look that twitched over his lips. And then he was looking upward and inspecting the ceiling until the frown could be reigned in. When he looked back at Will, he was grinning again. "I think that the name suits, don't you?"

Will's face crinkled in concern. She seemed to have hit on a weak spot of Valentine's. Well, if he didn't want to talk about it, she wasn't one to force it out on his birthday.

"Sure it does. So, are you just going to do regular birthday kinda stuff? Any plans to throw on a diaper and shoot people?"

"I'm fresh out of diapers, I'm afraid, and I've been wearing a bedsheet for half a week anyhow. I think I'll probably just revel in the fact that I have pants again," Valentine said, smiling and giving his shoulders a shrug. "The day seems to be a bigger deal here than where I come from, so I imagine people are going to be occupied elsewhere. No big to-do for me today. I think that's fine with me."
Any sign that he had been upset a moment ago was gone now, and he was absently tossing one of his new juggling balls into the air and catching it again. Either he was really quite the moody sort, or he was good at wearing all sorts of masks.
Either way, the mood seemed a little lighter again.

"Yeah, Valentine's Day tends to be a huge thing here for couple to get all romantic about each other. Card, plushies, chocolates; the marketing people really try to force you to buy stuff to prove just how in love you are, which can be a pain if you're single."

She watched him juggle as he talked. "Hey, you're pretty good at that."

Valentine made something of a snerking sound in the back of his throat. "You know it's gotten bad when your birthday has gone commercial and you don't get any of the profits yourself." He grinned jokingly and added a few of his glowy spheres to the show. "That's why I juggle, anyhow. I had better be good at it, it's how I've fed myself for years now."

... Well, popcorn and pop. Valentine is on a low budget again, now that he's gotten himself some more pants.

Valentine grinned right back at 6 from his own side of the room, holding up a piece of popcorn as a sort of peace offering. Or a taunt. However 6 might want to see it.

Valentine replied with a popcorn catch of his own, then took a bow. "I've been practicing," he stated.
What he didn't mention was that the popcorn still tended to bounce off of his forehead or his chin at least half of the time, and this once was a lucky catch. Stupid pinhole eyes.
He figured that River would probably grasp that without him announcing it to everyone else around.
